Walking to Lose Weight
One of the most enjoyable ways to take off those extra pounds is by walking. You can start off at your own pace and gradually build up your strength and endurance. Walking to lose weight is suitable for all ages and physical abilities. It’s simply up to you to get started!
You can walk alone, or if you prefer, try to find a friend who can walk with you. You may choose to take in the surroundings and the sounds of nature, or alternatively you can listen to music as you walk.
If you don’t have much experience with exercise, walking is an excellent way to build up your endurance so that you can graduate later to jogging or some other more physically challenging activity. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t get a good workout by walking. You’ll be surprised how much weight you can lose by walking!
It’s always a lot more enjoyable if you can find a beautiful nature park to do your walking. Perhaps there is a park near your house where you can get away from the traffic and pollution and breathe fresh air while you walk.
In order to be comfortable while you walk, be sure to wear suitable clothing and shoes. It’s best to dress in layers – that way, if you get too hot you can take things off one layer at a time. As for shoes, be sure to spend money on a high quality pair of walking shoes. Some people like to walk in their jogging shoes, and that’s no problem.
If you are walking for weight loss, then you will want to try and walk at a brisk pace so that you can burn more calories. If you have a pedometer or heart monitor, then you can gauge how far and how fast your are walking. Remember, a brisk pace where you work up a sweat will help you to burn calories and gradually lose weight.
It’s also important to drink enough water during your workout. Take a bottle of mineral water with you and drink from it when you feel thirsty. If you get too hot, don’t hesitate to stop and take a break along the way.
The important thing is that you enjoy your walk and continue at a pace that is comfortable. If you can walk with a friend, you will be able to chat along the way. If you prefer to walk alone, then perhaps you can listen to music along the way.
Whatever style of walking you choose, you can rest assured that if you stick with it over the long run that you will be able to slim down and become healthier. Also try to eat a healthy diet so that you can achieve an overall level of wellness that you didn’t have before.
